It's that time of year again! Star Wars™ Weekends 2010 officially starts today at Disney's Hollywood Studios™. The theme of this year's event pays tribute to the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. We still recall seeing the film on opening day exactly 30 years ago today.
We have created a collection of Disney Pins for the event this year. You may recall first reading about them on the Disney Parks Blog back in April. We also created an event page featuring this year's collection on DisneyPins.com.
In honor of the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, we thought we'd offer a behind the scenes look at the evolution of the Disney Vacation Club Member exclusive pin. You may recall this image was once in the running for the main logo for Star Wars™ Weekends 2010. This year is the first time we have ever offered a Disney Vacation Club Member Exclusive pin.
This was one of the first attempts at creating artwork featuring the Wampa and Tauntauns. You'll notice that Luke Skywalker and Han Solo were featured in this original concept.
Disney artist Garrett Webb revised the early concept and added Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. He also added the Star Wars™ Weekends 2010 logo. This was Garrett's rough pencil sketch.
The rough concept that Garrett created was then cleaned up.
This became the final artwork for the pin complete with color fills.
The final pin that will be sold only to Disney Vacation Club Members who present a valid DVC Membership ID. This pin won't be available via mail order; it will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis at Disney's Hollywood Studios™.
One final note. We can't decide. Do you have a favorite from the image below?

The Disney Parks Blog just put up a great article which previews some unique upcoming open edition pins. Check it out to get a look behind-the-scenes of the creative process for pins.
We'd like to present a closer look at some of the items part of our Dateline: Disneyland - Pin-Vited Press Event:
The inside of Item #1 - Dateline Disneyland®: 1955 - Trading Bag is equally colorful as the outside.
The inside pages can be removed to allow the bag to be used as a regular carrying bag.
Item #20 - Pin Set - Disneyland® Park Retro Icons is sold in a box featuring a quotation of the opening day dedication and a photograph of Walt Disney.
Item #52 - Rocket to the Moon Diorama features three pins in a special box which allows them to be displayed like a diorama.
Finally, a look at the Purchase with Purchase limited edition pin collection.

We just got this sample for the fantastic new Disney Alice in Wonderland pin created for the DVD release.
As you can see, the "DVD" slides in an out and we just can't stop playing with it! Between this and the Spaceship Earth image over on the Disney Parks Blog, we're driving ourselves mad! Thankfully, we've been told the best people are indeed mad.
