Ridley Pearson Latest Disney Books 2010 by Himself

Kingdom Keepers III - Book 3 in the Kingdom Keepers series, Disney in Shadow, takes us behind the scenes at Epcot. Disney Imagineer Wayne, the Keepers' mentor, and creator of Disney Holographic Imaging (DHI) has gone missing. Has he been abducted? Suspected are the evil Overtakers (Disney villains), including the devious Maleficent. When the turnstiles stop spinning at the Parks is when the real Rush begins. Get ready for the ride of your life!

Peter Pan, the Lost Boys, and Captain Hook have been some of the world's most storied characters since J.M. Barrie introduced them in his beloved tale, Peter Pan. In this new picture book, Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson take a fresh look at these characters as only they can. Created for the animated film, Mary Blair's illustrations helped to define the look of this Walt Disney classic and bring all the magic of Never Land to life—from the ominous Skull Rock to Peter's secret underground lair.

Sword of Mercy: The fourth title in the Peter and the Starcatchers series (originally planned as a trilogy of prequels to Barrie's classic Peter Pan), this adventure involves a magical sword once wielded by Charlemagne and now held by the forces of evil as they attempt to seize a cache of starstuff, the powerful substance that the Starcatchers must protect. Wendy steps into her mother's shoes as the story's heroine, while the action zigzags from one set of characters and locales to another. Full of narrow escapes from nasty villains and bits of humor, this fast-paced adventure delivers plenty of thrills.

Fun Facts: Best Friends Pet Care Resort

A Tail-Wagging Welcome: Beginning Aug. 27, 2010, Pluto welcomes dogs, cats, pot-bellied pigs and pocket pets such as hamsters and guinea pigs to the new 27,000-square-foot Best Friends Pet Care Resort at Walt Disney World Resort.

Lap of Luxury: Up to 270 dogs of all breeds and sizes can curl up comfortably in standard and luxury indoor-outdoor suites.  The truly pampered pooch may beg for an oversized luxury suite with plush raised bedding, TV and a private outdoor yard.

Meowificent! No “knead” to fear -- at least 30 cats will be “purrfectly” content at the resort’s Kitty City pavilion with two- and four-story cat condos.

Polly Wanna Cracker? Cockatoos and other pet birds stay in their own special facility along with hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets and other pocket pets.

Go, Dog, Go! No bones about it, the resort’s exclusive dog park is the place to burn off canine calories. Inside a fenced walking trail, dogs will have a squirrel-chasing good time in the 3,300-square-foot play area covered in artificial turf. Another 4,500-square-foot area is dotted with shade trees for owners who want to sit and watch pets play. The park’s 1,300-square-foot splash-and-shake zone is a cool extra.

Day Tripping or Sleeping Over? Park-hopping guests can book their pets into the resort just for the day. Overnight stays make Fido feel right at home when the family settles in at a nearby Walt Disney World Resort hotel.

Tales and Treats: Routines make a pet feel right at home. If your pup is used to a bedtime story, a staff member will read a “tuck-in” tale. If kitty craves fish, order Tuna on a Ritz room service. The resort’s TV sets play favorites like “Milo and Otis” or “Homeward Bound” for media-savvy pets.

Doggie Play Dates: There’s plenty of room for canine cavorting at the resort’s two 1,100-square-foot doggy-day-camp rooms that open onto their own play yards.

Extra, Extra! It’s a pet’s world, after all, and that’s why pet parents can choose from among many a la carte activities for their best friends.  Amenities and upgrades include: Ice Cream Treats, Puppy Cuddle Time, Bottled Water and Premium/Orthopedic Bedding for dogs. Feline guests can be pampered with private playtimes, activity toys in their suites, or Ice Cream Treats.

Best in Show: Practical pets know that extra cuddles are in store when they greet their families after a “go-home-fresh bath,” offered along with other services at the resort’s grooming salon.

Two Paws Up: Best Friends Pet Care Resort is located across from Disney’s Port Orleans Resort at 2510 Bonnet Creek Parkway in Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830. Guests can make reservations at wdw.bestfriendspetcare.com or by calling 877/4-WDW-PETS.

Main Street U.S.A. Miniatures

Robert Olszewski Biography

Robert Olszewski was born in 1945 in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania. His natural interest in art developed early and was first demonstrated in painting and drawing. At age 16, he began winning awards for his work at local art shows, and was encouraged to pursue a career in art. Robert graduated in 1968 with a BS in Art Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, married and moved to Southern California in the same year to live near a major US art center and teach. While teaching he painted in the summers and at night. The security of teaching plus the free time, allowed him to experiment freely and develop his skills. He had his first one-man show at the Ryder Gallery on La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles at age 27. At the same time he enjoyed his young family and made toys for his children to play with.

Along with the toys, he built a dollhouse for his daughter and this was his first introduction to the world of miniatures. His interest in miniatures turned from playful to a serious exploration of miniature figurative works as a new medium of expression. After 11 years, Robert left teaching in 1978 and pursued miniature figurative work full-time. Within a year his work was receiving national attention. In 1979, at age 34, Robert was brought under exclusive contract with the major European porcelain company, Goebel, maker of the world famous M.I. Hummel figurines, and was co-founder of the Goebel Miniatures Studios. As a master artist from 1979 to 1994, Robert oversaw the development of the modeling and painting studios, and watched the company grow from a staff of four painters in 1979 to 65 painters in a studio number 95 personnel.

In 1993, a 30-year museum retrospective of his work was mounted at the Carnegie Art Museum in Oxnard, California, and in the same year Robert was named "International Collectible Artist of the Year." In 1994, Robert re-established privately owned Olszewski Studios and began exploring his art in a smaller studio to enable him to devote more time to his personal artistic growth. This new direction followed his personal artistic interests and reflected his love of exploring and combining new materials. In his early fifties, his move to an independent status left more time to pursue in depth his art and address those areas he had been waiting to explore. In 1995, Robert was commissioned by the Walt Disney Company to prototype miniatures for their Enchanted Places Program. In 1996, a second museum retrospective of his work was mounted at The Carole and Barry Kaye Museum of Miniatures in Los Angeles, California. In 1998, Robert received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a third retrospective of his artwork was mounted at the University Museum. In 1999, Robert was commissioned by Indiana University of Pennsylvania to create a commemorative gift for their 125th Anniversary.

Robert continued his close association with the Walt Disney Company as he was commissioned to design and create the commemorative gift to be associated with the opening of Disney/Pixar's A Bug's Life, in 1998. In 2000, Robert would introduce a new line of miniatures titled "Story-Time," which led to the invitation to create a special work for the 2001 Disneyana Convention. Steamboat Willie - Cast Members Premiere was successfully received and caught the eye of Disneyland's Product Development Merchandise Manager, Deanne Hill. Disneyland commissioned Robert and Olszewski Studios to design and create a scaled replica of Main Street, U.S.A. "Sleeping Beauty Castle" was the first piece in the collection and was introduced in December of 2002. To the present, in December of 2005, a total of 12 buildings, 4 vehicles and 4 character packs have been released to the general marketplace. Robert and Olszewski Studios have since completed Cinderella's Castle for the Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida and have begun work on the Main Street, U.S.A. for the Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida as well.

Jun 28 WDW Olszewski Release Report
This is a very nice story and you can CLICK HERE to see the original post from Mikeland

Adam and I started collecting the Olszewski Walt Disney World Main Street miniature collection by buying the Cinderella Castle piece back in 2005. After purchasing the next two pieces in the series back in 2006, it took Walt Disney World all this time to release their next three pieces. When they announced the date for the release and signing by Mr. Olszewski, we knew we had to go.

We drove up from Miami and after some brief stops, we arrived at the Magic Kingdom’s toll plaza around 10:45 AM. The announcement from Disney noted that Mr. Olszewski would be signing the pieces at Main Street’s Art of Disney store from 10:00 AM till 11:00 AM, and then for a few hours in the afternoon. I wasn’t very optimistic that we would arrive in time for the early signing as we still had to take the monorail or ferry boat to the park. After going through security and the turnstiles, we finally arrived at the Main Street Cinema shop a few minutes after 11:00 AM. As this was our first experience with this type of event, I only had information from Disneyland’s previous releases as a guide. At Disneyland’s events, people wanting to buy the pieces would line up from before the park’s opening time and wait for hours in a queue to purchase the pieces. I was happily surprised upon entering the store to find only a few people in front of the display, the open cash register and Mr. Olszewski seated there. There were plenty of boxes in the back and the table was filled with Mr. Olszewski’s Main Street pieces, the Gallery of Light pieces and more. We quickly requested to purchase all three pieces and advised the clerks that we would take them with us, as opposed to having them shipped to the front of the park, to our resort (we weren’t staying on property this time) or shipped by common carrier. The three pieces that were being release were Exposition Hall with Tony’s Town Square Restaurant, The Chapeau and Confectionary and the Central Plaza – also known as the hub. The pieces were already signed by Mr. Olszewski. A cast member wrapped up the pieces for us, while we were paying and then waited to speak to Mr. Olszewski, who was sitting at the end of the table next to the first piece – Cinderella Castle. There were only four people before us, but as we learned, Mr. Olszewski was a wonderful man with many fascinating stories and loved to share them with his collectors. When we finally got our turn, we were able to spend some time discussing the collection, the future of the pieces, how he started his career as miniaturist and much more. We must have spent around 15 minutes talking to him and were even able to take some photos with him. I am not sure we will visit Walt Disney World for every future release, as the added expense of the drive, tolls, hotel stay, park tickets and everything else is much more than ordering the pieces online and having them shipped home – but the pleasure of meeting Mr. Olszewski was priceless.

Here are some photos from the event and of the pieces.

In the back side of Tony's Town Square Restaurant building was a tiny scene from Lady and the Tramp. According to Mr. Olszewski, each WDW piece will have a Disney scene like this or similar.

What Walt Disney Pictures has in Store for Fall

See Disney's "Tangled" in theaters November 24!Need something to put a smile back on your face as barbeques, pool parties, and lazy beach days wind down? Summer fun may be coming to an end, but there's much to look forward to this fall. As previewed at San Diego Comic-Con, autumn's most irresistible features just might be the films Walt Disney Pictures has lined up for the year-end homestretch. Prepare for some pixie-dust tricks and big-screen treats, because Disney magic strikes again!

Speaking of homestretch, the spectacular, against-all-odds journey of "Secretariat" gallops into theaters – and hearts – October 8. Diane Lane portrays Penny Chenery, a housewife and mother who takes the reins of her father's Virginia-based Meadow Stables in the early 1970s – despite her lack of horse-racing knowledge. Thanks to the help of veteran horse trainer Lucien Laurin (played by John Malkovich), Chenery navigates the male-dominated sport and produces the first U.S. Triple Crown winner in 25 years.

The film was inspired by an incredible true story and suggested by William Nack's book "Secretariat: The Making of a Champion." Here's a fun fact: Keep an eye out for the real Penny Chenery, now 87 years young ... she appears in one of the scenes as an extra and was an important resource while shooting the movie.

On November 24, let down your hair as the enchantment continues with "Tangled," the hilarious, 3D-animated feature that puts a modern twist on the classic tale of Rapunzel – and marks Walt Disney Pictures' 50th full-length animated feature. Zachary Levi provides the voice of Flynn Rider, the kingdom's most notorious (and charismatic) bandit, who hides out in Rapunzel's mysterious tower. Mandy Moore voices the fetching and feisty teen who takes Flynn hostage in a desperate attempt to escape her tower-bound existence. She ultimately strikes a deal with the charming thief, and the two set off on a daring, action-packed adventure ... with 70 feet of magical golden hair in tow.

Directed by Byron Howard and 14-year animation veteran Nathan Greno (both of "Bolt" fame), the film features new songs and a score by eight-time Oscar®-winning composer Alan Menken ("The Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin," "Pocahontas," "Enchanted"), with lyrics written by Glenn Slater (2008 Tony® and Grammy®-nominee for "The Little Mermaid"). The all-star voice cast includes Ron Perlman, Jeffrey Tambor, Donna Murphy, and Brad Garrett – with talent like that, good hair days are guaranteed!

Hold off on those visions of sugarplums because the 3D, high-tech adventure "TRON: Legacy" hits theaters December 17. Fans may already be familiar with "TRON," but the story picks up 20 years later when Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father Kevin (Jeff Bridges), formerly the world's leading video game developer. When Sam is inadvertently pulled into the cyber universe where Kevin's been trapped for 20 years, father and son must escape a ruthless villain determined to keep them captive in a digital realm that's become far more advanced and dangerous than anything Kevin ever created.

In a visually stunning virtual world unlike anything seen before on the big screen, both Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner (Alan Bradley/Tron) reprise their original "TRON" roles and are joined by Olivia Wilde (Quorra), Michael Sheen (Castor), James Frain (Jarvis), and Beau Garrett (Siren Jem). Directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Steven Lisberger (who co-wrote and directed the original 1982 "TRON"), the film's futuristic score was written by the Grammy Award-winning electronic music duo Daft Punk.

One of the most highly anticipated films of the year, "TRON: Legacy" is filled with some pretty impressive firsts. It's the first 3D movie to integrate a character with a fully digital head and body based upon an existing actor, which enabled filmmakers to create the younger version of Jeff Bridges' character. In addition, some of the technological breakthroughs include extensive use of self-illuminated costumes, creating both molds and costumes via digital sculpture technology, and shooting the movie with 35mm lenses and full 35mm chip cameras.

Mark your calendars for Disney's "Secretariat," "Tangled," and "TRON: Legacy" ... three films sure to transport you into fantastical worlds far from the holiday rush!

Walt Disney Signature is Disney's first upscale, non-character, adult lifestyle brand. It began with home furnishings and has expanded to include outdoor furniture, entertainment units, rugs, wall décor, tabletop products, jewelry, clothing, stationery, and candles.

    Walt Disney Signature Unveils Theo
    Kalomirakis Home Entertainment Collection

Latest Disney Signature Expansion Incorporates Plug And Play
    Surround Sound Technology

Los Angeles, CA (April 2009) – Renowned for bringing together the latest in animation and sound technologies, Walt Disney createdtimeless film classics that have touched generations. As represented by numerous classics from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves to Sleeping Beauty, Bambi, and Fantasia, he understood the narrativepower of sound in cinema, once describing the experience of seeing Fantasia in the theater as a "visual concert." And now Disney Consumer Productsand Theo Kalomirakis, a leading home theater designer, are expanding the Walt Disney Signature collection, Disney's first upscale lifestylebrand, with a new line of home entertainment furniture inspired by Walt's pioneering use of picture and sound technology. The new line will launch domestically at High Point Market at the International HomeFurnishings Center on April 23, 2009.

"When the lights go down the room has to completely disappear. It's you and the movie on the screen. Walt Disney's films are so compelling because he understood this, and was one of the pioneers in making it happen" said Theo Kalomirakis. "Our furniture is completely designed to seamlessly incorporate the technology so that no one has to see it. The only thing you see is the movie on the screen."

Theo Kalomirakis for Walt Disney Signature is taking home entertainment to new heights with the launch of an upscale home entertainment furniture line featuring armoires and credenzas that incorporate high quality built-in speakers, subwoofers, and MP3 docking stations. Complementing the collection are coordinated sofas, arm chairs, coffee tables and side tables. The credenza houses discreet electrical outlets that power all audiovisual equipment with just a single external cord. Hidden speakers and subwoofers built right into the unit provide superb surround sound without compromising room design.

"Disney is a lifestyle brand, and nothing illustrates that more succinctly than Theo Kalomirakis for Walt Disney Signature," said Robert Oberschelp, director, Walt Disney Signature, Disney Consumer Products. "This new line invites the most discerning home theater enthusiasts to make the magic of Disney a part of their everyday viewing experience."

The new line features three styles of coordinated upholstered furniture and case goods that seamlessly blend form and function:

    Toccata

Walt Disney's musical and visual masterpiece, Fantasia, opens with Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor." The Toccata collection blends modern design with attention to detail bringing the magic of sound to life.

    Melody

No one understood music's emotional power better than Walt Disney. In the Disney film short Melody, the music illustrates key moments in the soundtrack of our lives. The Melody collection combines comfort and state-of-the-art technology to create a line that's perfectly in tune with a harmonious lifestyle.

    Symphony

In Fantasia, Walt Disney created a striking landscape of mythical beauty inspired by the melodic passages of Beethoven's "Pastoral Symphony." The Symphony collection marries the elegance of classic design with innovative technology to enrich your life with a symphony of timeless beauty.

Kalomirakis summarized the collection saying, "I don't want you to watch a movie, I want you to feel it, to be lost in the experience."

Walt Disney Signature - Limited Edition

Walt Disney Signature is Disney's first upscale, non-character, adult lifestyle brand. It began with home furnishings and has expanded to include outdoor furniture, entertainment units, rugs, wall décor, tabletop products, jewelry, clothing, stationery, and candles.

Dining Installation and DIFFA Event Display

Milan, Italy – 13 April 2010 – Walt Disney Signature, Disney's first upscale, inspired, non-character, adult lifestyle brand and Cappellini, one of the most renowned design innovators worldwide, today unveiled five limited edition chairs at the Milan Furniture Fair in Italy. The combination of Cappellini's reputation for innovation and the magic and inspiration of Disney has produced a series of everyday products that resemble works of art.

This introduction follows the success of Walt Disney Signature's dining installation in collaboration with Cappellini for last month's Dining By Design DIFFA (Design Industries  Foundation Fighting AIDS) event in New York City.

A 3-dimensional sculpting of Mickey Mouse sitting on a giant chair, previously used for the DIFFA event display, was recreated at Fuori Salone, Milano Design Village to mark today's launch. The Mickey sculpture is made of polyurethane, measures more than three metres tall and weighs 40 kilos.

"Walt Disney and Cappellini both have a shared approach to design, creativity and collaboration that turns everyday products into functional works of art," commented Pamela Lifford, executive vice president, Home and Fashion, Disney Consumer Products. "Collaborating with a leading Italian design brand specialising in contemporary furnishings like Cappellini is another exciting step in continuing Walt Disney Signature's philosophy on design and innovation."

"This collaboration is the premise for a joint Cappellini and Walt Disney Signature stylistic commitment that promises to become a new, interesting and exciting chapter in the history of contemporary design, combining Cappellini's strong inclination for innovation with the magical creativity of Disney," added Giulio Cappellini, Art Director for Cappellini.

The Ribbon stool and the Fish Chair, Y's de Luxe and Rive Droite armchairs are embellished with patterns, each one with a different image and underlying theme. The Ribbon's new profile blends Cappellini design with the outline of Disney's most famous character, Mickey Mouse; Y's de Luxe and Rive Droite reflect and multiply the same image in striking processed fabrics; the Fish Chair's shape is inspired by Disney's It's A Small World and produced in recycled material. Products will be available to the public in late Spring 2010.

ECO FISH Walt Disney Signature limited edition from Cappellini
    - design: Satyendra Pakhalè 2010

An organic shape inspired by nature, the Fish Chair is the ideal way to showcase the latest advancement in fabrication - an opaque, multi-coloured plastic created from recycled materials, moulded using a rotational technique. The material is recycled to underline Cappellini's renewed focus on the theme of conserving raw materials for the future generations. The internal part of the seat is coloured white. Series of 99 numbered pieces.

    Cappellini

Merging flawlessly together, our two visions create a single, iconic representation of the seamless collaboration between Cappellini and Walt Disney Signature. This is a series of high and low stools with backrest, produced from laser cut and folded sheet metal. The low stool has a shiny red varnish, the high stool a shiny yellow varnish, whilst the feet are in transparent plastic. Series of 399 numbered pieces for the low stool.
