Some Merchandise for The Black Cauldron

The Black Cauldron is a 1985 animated feature produced by Walt Disney Pictures and originally released to theatres on July 24, 1985. It was the first to use the APT process in a film, which replaced Xerography. It was the most expensive animated feature made as of its release. It cost $25 million to produce.

For all of our hand-drawn animation fans, here is a look at a special limited edition Vinylmation™ collection that commemorates the 25th anniversary of Disney's The Black Cauldron

Munchies and crunchies!

The 9" figure represents the villainous Horned King, while the 3" features the loveable sidekick Gurgi. The original artwork for both of the Vinylmation™ figures were designed by Disney Design Group artist Monty Maldovan. The figures will be sold together and will be released soon.

    Did you know?

This film was 12 years in the making - 5 of those years were spent in actual production. The film featured a technolgical breakthrough - the Animation Photo Transfer (APT) process. It was the first major change in the Studio's method of transferring the artist's drawings to a cel since photocopying replaced hand inking 20 years earlier. Overall, the APT greatly improved the quality of the animator's art.
